We recommend single use preservative free saline:  Addipak Saline in 3ml or 5 ml (says Solution for “Inhalation” USP)

Scleral Lens Insertion Tips:

  • Tuck chin downward towards chest
  • Place lens on LARGE suction cup (inserter must have a hole in the bottom to prevent it from suctioning to your lens)
  • Overfill lens with non-preserved saline

Scleral Removal Tips:

  • Patient can sit with head upright
  • Retract upper and lower lids
  • Use index finger to gently apply pressure through lower eyelid
    targeting white of eye just below edge of lens targeting the 5,6 & 7:00 area
  • Apply SMALL suction cup to lower third of lens
  •  Use a pivoting upward motion to release lens
  • Optionally:  patient may look upward
